If You Have Been Recently Raped

If this has just happened to you, you might be experiencing lots of different feelings. Many people feel scared, numb, shocked, confused, or angry. There is no right or wrong way to feel or to be.

If something has just happened to you, you might want to:

  • Try to get somewhere that feels safe.
  • Try to stay warm (you could be in shock).
  • See if a friend or someone you trust can be with you.
  • Talk to someone about what's happened.

However you're feeling, try to remember this isn't your fault and you're not alone.

Oakwood Place SARC offers a service for adults and children in Essex, who have experienced sexual violence or sexual abuse.  Clients can access Oakwood Place via the Police and other professionals, as well as via the self-referral pathway (booking an appointment at the SARC, without police involvement).

At the SARC, you will be offered  support and guidance, a medical assessment/treatment, a forensic examination, and the opportunity of aftercare referrals for support services.

The SARC will offer you support, healthcare, and aftercare advice if:

  • You are in Essex; and
  • You have experienced sexual violence or sexual abuse.

They should also be able to offer you a forensic medical examination if:

  • The incident(s) has occurred in the past 7 days.
  • They SARC will refer you into SERICC services for counselling and advocacy support
