Once we receive a referral, one of our Young Person Engagement Workers will reach to the young person or parent/carer to schedule the First Meeting. During this meeting, we'll take the time to complete an assessment and inform more about the support options available at SOSRC. After completing this initial meeting, there is opportunity to decide which services they would like to access, whether it's participating in our groups, engaging in counselling sessions, or exploring other support avenues.
A Children's Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (CHISVA) is a trained professional who provides support and advocacy to children and young people who have experienced any form of sexual abuse. CHISVAs offer confidential and non-judgmental support to children while they navigate the legal system, providing emotional support, and helping them understand their rights and options. They act as a liaison between the child and other agencies, such as the police and CPS, social services, and healthcare, ensuring that the child's needs and wishes are central to any decisions made.
Play therapy is a form of psychotherapy that is specifically tailored to engage children in a therapeutic process through play. It provides a safe and supportive environment where children can express and explore their feelings, thoughts, and experiences through toys, games, and other creative activities. All of our play therapy sessions are delivered from our Tree Room located in Southend-on-Sea City.
Talking therapy for young people, also known as counselling involves verbal communication and creative activities if required between a young person and therapist. This type of therapy provides a safe and confidential space for young people to explore and express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Young People are able to access talking and play therapy depending on their needs.
GTTF is a weekly wellbeing group tailored for 12 to 18-year-old girls enrolled in secondary or further education. The program offers a safe and supportive space where participants engage in various empowering activities aimed at fostering a sense of community and enjoyment. During term time, activities like Book Club, Mindfulness, Arts and Crafts, and Activism are organised regularly, with a monthly Friday Night Social event.
Additionally, GTTF hosts workshops covering diverse topics such as Body Image and Self-Esteem, Resin Jewellery making, and Bubble Tea making during school breaks. Trips to explore unique experiences, including attending women's basketball matches, visiting exhibitions, cinema outings, and indoor rock climbing, are available. Residential camping trips are also offered, allowing girls to try new activities in a safe environment. These activities take place in our centre located in Southend-on-Sea City or externally vetted venues and are facilitated by specialised staff ensuring a secure and enriching environment for participants.
