We know that stigma attached to sexual violence maintains low levels of awareness about what sexual violence is. The pressure of avoiding shame and preserving the honour of the family, further silences victims and survivors.
We recognise that language barriers and a lack of trust in professionals prevents access to services and our staff team consists of women representative from some of those communities which helps to build trust.
We understand support needs to be accessible in the community and deliver workshops to community groups in a non-threatening way.
Confidentiality is very important to us, and we offer a safe space to provide information about our services and ways to access our support.
Within our SOS Rape Crisis Team, we hope to shortly have a dedicated role such as an Engagement Counsellor and Engagement ISVA. These specialists play a crucial part in our efforts, ensuring that survivors receive the tailored support they deserve.
If you would like us to come into your organisation or community venue to tell you about our services please do get in touch.
We are committed to comprehensive training on various aspects of sexual violence, including different types of abuse, trauma responses, and the referral process.
Our training programs cover our referral process, services we can offer to survivors. These services encompass a holistic approach to healing, including counselling, support when going through the Criminal Justice System, and our community resources.
For the provision of specialist workshops and training, we recommend ICENA - a social enterprise providing bespoke training and consultancy covering trauma, sexual harassment and sexual violence and a wide range of other issues for teachers, schools, businesses and the public.
SOSRC, along with four other Rape Crisis Centres, is a founder member and shareholder of ICENA, and our expertise and experience feeds into ICENA work. I contact ICENA's Director, Naomi Butters, on naomi@icena.net or by calling 07961 494907 to discuss what your school needs.
